Why Men Need Skincare Too!

When it comes to healthy habits, guys love to talk about fitness and eating right. Too often, however, they neglect taking care of a specific body part that is essential to good health: the skin.

Skincare, at this point, is basic care, regardless of gender. Skin is skin, and caring for it is crucial to everyone’s health. Healthy skin not only looks good, but it also helps keep you free of diseases and infections which consequently affect how you feel about yourself.

Here are some things you may or may not know about men's skin and why it needs as much care as well!

Men generally have oilier skin

Men’s skin is generally oilier than that of the majority of women because they have more active sebaceous glands and therefore more pores. As a result, men's skin has a lower pH than that of female skin and is prone to impurities and acne. Using anti-acne products helps to prevent acne, pigmentation and other blemishes.

Men have uneven skin tone due to shaving

Do you prefer your face beard-free? Then shaving must be a habit. But the thing is, most men develop dark spots or patches on their faces as a result of frequently removing facial hair. Poor shaving techniques lead to ingrown hair, which irritate the skin and cause the hair follicles to swell up into sore lumps commonly known as razor burn. Although the swelling usually goes down after a few days of not shaving, the dark spots that are left behind can last for months or even years. To prevent this from happening, it's wise to apply a pre-shave oil so you can allow the razor to glide smoothly over your skin. After shaving, use a moisturizer to prevent inflammation and soothe your skin.

Men's skin need thorough cleansing

One thing you likely have gotten right at this point is NOT washing your face thoroughly in the morning. This is because washing too much can ruin your skin’s natural oils. Of course, this only works if you wash every night--and no, a quick water splash on your face just won't do. Let your skin end on a fresh note with a reliable cleanser and don’t let dirt and pollution soak into your pores overnight. As long as you don’t have sensitive skin, you can alternate between an exfoliating cleanser for an enhanced shaving experience and a mild wash.

As a man, how do you take good care of your skin? Do you often have difficulty finding the right products for your face?
