Importance of Sun Care

You wait all year round to have some fun under the sun. Now that it's summer, there's no holding you back. But if you have too much fun and get exposed in the heat for too long, a whole slew of skin problems can result. You name it: Wrinkles, hyperpigmentation, other signs of skin ageing. Of course, that shouldn't stop you from having a good time in the heat. You just need to make sun care a non-negotiable for your routine.

Sun protection

When it comes to sun care, a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 is your go-to. This product is able to minimize the penetration of UV rays into your skin and the triggering of a variety of skin disorders. There are two types of UV rays we need to be protected from--UVA and UVB. UVA refers to the ‘ageing’ rays. These are present in the same strength all year round, even when it's not summer. Meanwhile, UVB refers to the ‘burning’ rays, which is the ‘heat’ that you feel from the sun. Considered much stronger during the summer season, UVB is what will burn and blister your skin. It penetrates only into the top layers of your skin but will accelerate the risk of getting skin cancers. To make sure that you are protected from both UVA and UVB this summer season, you need to choose a sunscreen that's labeled as Broad Spectrum.

Prevent skin drying

Unprotected skin that faces UV light even a little bit here and there is going to become dry, and that can cause your skin's superficial barrier to become impaired. Make sure that your sun care product combines hydration to keep the skin barrier moisturized, sunscreen to protect from UV, and antioxidants to neutralize skin-damaging free radicals.

Keep your skin tone even

You can fake it until you make it with the right foundation, good lighting, and a handy concealer, but it's important to put skincare first to treating that pesky uneven skin tone. That said, prevention is key. When you get exposed to the sun, your skin gets prone to uneven discoloration. Prevent discoloration from applying a good amount of sunscreen on your face and make sure that the product is lathered on evenly.

Lower Skin Cancer risks

Sunscreen allows you to shield your skin from the risk of various types of skin cancer, especially, melanoma. Melanomi is considered the worst type of skin cancer, which can be life-threatening for women, particularly those who are in their 20s.
